Immigration Solution

With many of the current issues confronting the United States today is
the one of illegal immigration.  Let us not be confused about this
situation.  It is an important issue and possibly one of national
security.

Let us also be clear as to what this situation really is and let us
further not be lulled into complacency by referring to these illegal
aliens as “undocumented.”  These entrants to our nation are “illegal”.  But what is to be done?

It has been estimated that there are about
1 million illegal immigrants who enter this country annually.  This
number of illegal immigrants has definitely taken its toll on our
society.  It has affected our law enforcement agencies, educational
institutions and medical services.  And all this at the expense of the
taxpayers…these taxpayers being American born, naturalized and
resident aliens…all of whom are in the United States legally.  And
what has been the reaction of the federal government?  Nothing!  What of
members of Congress representing the border States? Nothing!

Let us be clear about those who choose to enter the United States
illegally.  Why are they coming here?  Is it because they want to become
citizens?  No!  Is it because they are desireous of the American dream?
No!  They enter this country to earn money and send it back home, or
they enter this country to avail themselves of medical and educational
services for which they are not paying their fair share.  They enter
this country and flock to immigrant neighborhoods and living amongst
their own cultural communities…not to keep alive their culture but to
have the ability and protection of blending in and avoiding detection.
They have little regard for obeying or respecting the laws of this
country…if they did they would have entered legally as others have
done and continue to do so.

It has been claimed that these illegal immigrants have the same
desire to be a part of this society as every other American.  This is so
far from the truth that it is unbelievable.  They have chosen to violate
the law by entering this country illegally and yet it has been argued
that they are law-abiding.

The United States government needs to step up to the plate and take
effective action to stem this tide of illegal immigration.

The
following measures must be taken:
1] Use the National Guard along the borders to aid the Border Patrol in
securing the borders,
2] Require all resident aliens to register annually with the INS
(Immigration and Naturalization Service) as once was required,
3] Require all colleges and universities to notify the INS of any
change in foreign students enrollment status at the end of every
semester and/or at any time a foreign student withdraws from the
college or university,
4] Enact federal legislation to prohibit the issuance of any
driver’s license to any foreigner who can not substantiate their legal
residency in the United States (this can be done under the ‘commerce
clause’ of the US Constitution.),
5] Amend the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment citizenship clause by
acknowleging that ‘No one born in the US of illegal immigrant parentage
can be classified an American citizen unless at least one parent is a legal American citizen.  [This is already true of
children born in the US of officials of other nations serving in the
US.]

6] Prosecute any local and/or State law enforcement agency that
fails to aid in the determination of citizenship status of anyone
arrested and charged with a criminal act.  [All law enforcement agents
take an oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution and laws
of the US.]

7] Increase penalties on employers who fail to check employees citizenship status of those they hire.

8] Withhold any foreign aid to any country that fails to provide
adequate provisions to prevent immigrants to the US from leaving their
country illegally…vis a vis Mexico, primarily.

The United States is often referred to as a ‘nation of immigrants.”
And this is true.  But we are also, and more important a ‘nation of
laws’.  Those who enter this country have an obligation to be expected
to obey the laws of the land.  To enter this country illegally  clearly demonstrates their disregard to be lawabiding
citizens or residents of this great nation.

To continue to do nothing to halt this “flood of illegal
immigration” is an insult to every legal immigrant who has come to this
nation by following the laws for legal entry.  To offer amnesty to those
illegal immigrants currently here is a slap in the face to those who
are awaiting legal entry into this country.

In light of 9/11, it is paramount that we get serious about our
nation’s security and secure our borders if we have any hope of
preventing another 9/11.  In light of the increase in criminal activity
by illegal immigrants, and the facts show it has increased drastically,
it is time to be concerned about the safety of our legal citizens and
residents.  The duty of the government is to defend our nation from
external and internal aggression…and this “illegal immigration” is
both an internal and external act of aggression on the safety of our
citizens and legal residents.  It is time for the politicians to stop
thinking about how many votes they will gather in the next election by
avoiding to confront the issue of “illegal immigration” and time to
start doing what they were elected to do…that is to act on behalf of
the citizens of the US.
